Guests are invited to hear about Dan McCleary’s relationship to still life painting and will visit his studio to see recently completed work and works in progress before they are exhibited at Caspar Giorgio Williams Gallery in London. Still life painting is an important part of his ongoing art practice and during the pandemic when working with live models became difficult, working with still lifes became an even greater focus. Though he has returned to working on figures, the peace, challenge and solace of painting still lifes remains integral to his practice.
Alice Neel and Cecilia Beaux: DOUBLE PORTRAIT
Sunday, July 13th - THIS EVENT HAS ENDED Art Division Library - 2418 W. 6th St LA CA 90057 - Space is Limited
Two artists, Cecilia Beaux born in the mid 19th Century, Alice Neel at the turn of the 20th, both from Philadelphia but aesthetically worlds apart. Had the male-dominated societies each was subjected to changed that drastically in so short a time? Or was it the character of each of these artists that forced one to abide by the restrictions of her time while the other broke through any imposed limitations? Yet each, through her sustained commitment to her art, ultimately triumphed despite adversity.
