printmaking
This class serves as an introduction to relief printing. Students will learn how to create their own set of prints by designing, carving, and printing a linoleum block. Each student creates a monoprint edition of prints.

Film Classes at Art Division allow students to explore their creative voices through moving images. Students learn about the basic components of filmmaking from formatting screenplays to story structure to editing styles. Classes include screenings of short films – some contemporary and some classics. While narrative film is discussed student work includes narrative shorts, documentary shorts, poetic/abstract films. Art Division offers access to DSLR cameras, Recording devices, tripods and computers loaded with Adobe Suite software including Premiere.
Film classes are taught by Joe Petricca, a filmmaker/educator who is also the Chair of the Undergrad and Grad Film program at ArtCenter College of Design and curates film screenings at the Norton Simon Museum.
In addition to the general filmmaking class, some terms offer instead a class on screenwriting and/or making a group short film. Acting classes are offered sometimes embedded in the film class and sometimes free standing.

drawing
Drawing students at Art Division are introduced to the Art and Science of drawing. Our sessions emphasize various techniques, materials, and approaches necessary for practicing drawing from observation, which is one of the keys to developing insights into the mechanisms of visual perception. Observational drawing is a basic tool for visual problem solving in artistic disciplines.

painting
Utilizing acrylic paint, students break down fundamental technical applications while exploring various approaches to paint handling and color theory. Beyond technical mastery, the curriculum integrates art historical movements to inspire and drive the visual language of each project, encouraging students to both learn traditional methods and push their creative boundaries.

photography
Photography covers the basic functions of the SLR camera, black and white film development and introduces students to the histories of photography. Students develop collaborative projects and explore natural light to create photographs that highlight on personal narratives.

art history
Through participatory dialogues students will engage past and present art production. Students will take the time to really experience the work of their colleagues and the works of different artists from the past and the present.
