This uncanny image, sunny as a travel poster, represents an immigrant’s journey through Central America and Mexico to the United States. Seemingly devoid of complicated emotion, the subject looks directly and proudly at the viewer, betraying little of what might have been a long and complex trip. The map, however, is peppered with small hearts and caution warning symbols, intimating that those locations carry added meaning.
