This image of a woman’s legs scattered with long stem red roses in a bathtub hints at the complexity of love or hopeful feeling. Literary references underscore this complexity. The title refers to James Baldwin’s 1963 book that gave voice to the growing civil rights movement.  According to Baldwin, if we fail to solve the issue of racial inequality, our civilization will see destruction. The inscription on the photograph comes from the British graphic novel V for Vendetta that explores a dystopian future. One senses tension between the sensitive and vulnerable visual image and societal evil inferred by the quotes.
