Fridays - June 3, 17 ,24 10:00-1:00pm In-person (Instructor: Luis Serrano) Paper and charcoal are basic drawing materials. Learn how to make your own. This workshop will introduce basic techniques for fabricating paper from recycled material. You will learn about tinting and sizing paper for the purpose of drawing. The second part of this workshop will introduce a simple method for fabricating vine charcoal from local sources. Teaching Arts to Children

It will focus on strategies and dispositions that aid teaching art and will emphasize lesson planning and art projects that use various materials. Saturdays - June 4, 11 ,18, 25 12:00-3:00pm In-person (Instructor: Carolie Parker) This four-week workshop is an opportunity to develop skill in creating three-dimensional form, with an emphasis on dynamic composition, texture and color. We will work on three projects using common materials like cardboard, Styrofoam, recyclables and found objects. Students will develop confidence and a sense of freedom in building sculpture, a skill that is highly applicable to two-dimensional work, whether drawing, painting or photo-based. All materials will be provided, but students are encouraged to bring recyclables. Filmmaking Bootcamp

Fri & Sat. - June 23, 24 ,25, 30 July 1, 2 1:00-6:00pm Editing of film projects Between July 5 to 22 (2-day minimum commitment) In-person (Instructor: Joe Petricca) In this workshop you will gain confidence as a filmmaker by making decisions in the moment. You will learn the necessary skills of collaboration. Teams of three students (director, cinematographer, sound) will be handed a script, a location and actors to shoot the scene. Then the team will rotate positions with a new scene and so on. Some actors will be provided but some roles will be played by workshop participants. Working in a Museum

Where do I find out about such jobs? What kind of training do I need to be eligible to apply? Two Getty Museum professionals will come to Art Division to talk about what kind of work one can do in a museum, focusing on the field of art conservation and collection care. They will also discuss how they ended up working in a museum. Two all-day field trips will follow, one at the Getty Center and one at the Getty Villa, during which you will get to visit conservation studios and other parts of the museum in action. |

Tuesdays - June 14, 21, 28, 5, 12, 19 5:30-7:00pm In-person (Instructor: Matias Anaya) This workshop focuses on crafting songs from a lyrical perspective. No musical experience is required! Attendees will study existing songs and craft their own lyrics drawing from personal experience. With the aid of instrumentalists, the attendees will turn their song into a performable piece of music by the end of the summer session. Portrait painting (oil on canvas)

Saturdays - July 2, 9 ,16, 23 12:00 - 3:00pm In-person (Instructor: Phyllis Green) Build a portrait bust in clay! Students will learn basic techniques for building with clay coils so that the forms can be dried and fired in a kiln. No previous experience with clay is needed. “Hand and Eye”
Monday - Friday - July 11-15 & 18 - 24 2:00-4:00pm In-person (Instructor: Bruno Schmidt) Week one: Emphasizing “the hand,” we will explore identity and who you are going to be: from cave to Instagram. We will employ casting and printing techniques. Week two: Emphasizing “the eye,” we will explore identity and who you are now: from shadow in the cave to film. We will be employing casting and drawing techniques. The workshop will be recorded in a collective book and on film. “Deface You”
Fridays - July 15, 22, 29 3:00-5:00pm In-person (Instructor: Leopoldo Peña) In this workshop, we will manipulate portraits as a way of defacing our self-images. Participants will get an opportunity to write, scratch and paint on 4x5 negatives. |
