ART, IMMIGRATION & RESISTANCE

In this lecture, Dr. Álvaro Huerta will discuss the contentious topic of immigration through art. This includes photographs (Antonio Turok, Pablo Aguilar) and paintings (Salomón Huerta). In particular, by utilizing the brilliant art of Salomón (his sibling who was born in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico), Dr. Huerta seeks to humanize
immigrants and defend los de abajo / those on the bottom—where he comes from—against Trump’s xenophobic rhetoric and policies
